"NEW" Public Service Project
Concerned about pedestrian deaths along Gulf Boulevard, Rotarians in the Gulf Beaches Rotary Club conferred widely with other organizations to determine how best to serve the community. The Club concluded that there was a need to increase public acceptance of the shared responsibilities of pedestrians and drivers in assuring safe streets. A Pedestrian Safety Campaign has been launched in partnership with Bike/Walk Tampa Bay, the Treasure Island Police Department, and the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
A sign was created focusing on shared responsibility with the theme “Walk with Care; Drive Aware”. Rotarians are distributing these signs to local businesses and enterprises along Gulf Boulevard from St. Pete Beach to North Redington Beach. The accompanying letter, signed by the partners, asks that the signs be displayed in prominent locations. This Campaign will continue in future years and the Club will undertake additional activities to create public awareness.
